Cathedral & Tower Course Local Rules
Water Hazards(Rule 26)
The boundaries of water hazards are defined by yellow posts and the boundaries of lateral water hazards by red posts.
6 & 12 Cathedral:
If it is unclear if a ball played over the water is in the hazard then a provisional ball may played under any of the options under Rule 26-1:
a. Play a ball as nearly as possible at the spot from which the original ball was last played.
b. Drop a ball behind the water hazard, keeping the point at which the original ball last crossed the margin of the water hazard directly between the hole and the spot on which the ball is dropped, with no limit to how far behind the water hazard the ball may be dropped.
In such a case, if a provisional ball is played and the original ball is in the water hazard, the player may play the original ball as it lies or continue with the provisional ball in play with the usual penalty under Rule 26-1.
Paths & Roads
All gravel/tarmac paths and roads (including the disused path in front of the 17th tee Cathedral) and concrete marker posts are immovable obstructions unless deemed out of bounds as above. Relief may be obtained. (Rule 24-2b).
Trees
If any staked, tagged or protected tree/bush or any tree/bush less than 2 club lengths in height interferes with a player’s stance or the area of the intended swing, the ball must be lifted and dropped without penalty in accordance with the procedure prescribed in Rule 24-2b(i). The ball may be cleaned when so lifted.
Bunkers
Stones in bunkers are movable obstructions. Rule 24-1 applies.
Ground Under Repair
Where designated G.U.R interferes with a player’s stance or the area of intended swing the player must take relief under Rule 25-1. Winter greens are permanent G.U.R.
Pop-Up Sprinklers, Water System Covers
These are immovable obstructions. Relief may be obtained under Rule 24-2. In addition, if such an obstruction on or within two club lengths of the putting green of the hole being played intervenes between the ball and the hole, the player may obtain relief as follows:
a) If the ball lies on the putting green it may be lifted and placed, not nearer the hole at the nearest point at which intervention by the obstruction is avoided.
b) If the ball lies off the putting green (but not in a hazard) and is within two club lengths of the intervening obstruction, it may be lifted, cleaned and dropped as in Clause (a) above.
Etiquette
a) Please repair pitch marks, replace divots and rake bunkers.
b) Players looking for a ball or holding up play with a clear hole ahead must wave other players behind through.
c) A single player has no standing and shall always give way to a match of any kind.
d) Keep golf carts, bags and buggies off the greens and tees.
e) Players must play consecutive holes.
f) Wait for the players in front to get out of range.
g) Clear the green quickly on completing putting (please do not place trollies/bags at the front of the green as this holds up play for those following.
h) Players teeing off the 7th Cathedral should ensure the 6th tee is clear before playing.
Out of Bounds
Tower Course
Out of Bounds: (Rule 27)
a) Beyond all fences, ditches, water and hedges surrounding the course including the practice range and car park behind the 6th and 11th holes.
b) On or beyond the line of white posts to the left and rear of the 12th, 13th & 18th holes.
c) On land beyond the boundary stream at the rear of the 3rd hole and along the left side of the 4th and 17th holes.
d) Over the road/path to the right of the 7th and 8th holes and over the road/path to the left of the 14th, 15th and 16th holes.
To aid speed of play a provisional ball may be played across the lake in front of the 3rd green, if it is unclear whether the ball is in the water hazard. If the original ball is in the water hazard, the player may play the original ball as it lies or continue with the provisional ball in play, but the player may not proceed under Rule 26-1.
Cathedral Course
Out of Bounds: (Rule 27)
a) Beyond all fences, ditches and boundaries surrounding the course and over the hedge to the left of the 1st hole.
b) On the land beyond the boundary stream to the left of the 4th and 5th holes and to the right and rear of the 16th hole.
c) When playing the 5th hole, to the right of the white posts along the side of the 10th green and fairway.
d) Over the road to the left of the 1st, 7th, 12th & 14th holes.
e) When playing the 18th hole, to the left of the white posts bordering the Tower course and beyond the white posts in front of the clubhouse.
To aid speed of play a provisional ball may be played across the lake in front of the 12th green, if it is unclear whether the ball is in the water hazard. if the original ball is in the water hazard, the player may play the original ball as it lies or continue with the provisional ball in play, but the player may not proceed under rule 26-1.
