We have received a number of comments on our greens which look two tone at the moment as a result of the two types of grass species in the green.

The weather is definitely hotting up and this means the grass is growing and it is great for golf. We have excellent definition on the fairways on both courses.

We have received some comments recently regarding the Cathedral greens as being slightly bumpy so I thought it would be a good idea to explain what we are doing.

Chichester Golf Club has just appointed a new Junior Organiser for the 2009/10 season. Patrick Trinkwon has just taken on the role and has done so with lots of energy and enthusiasm.

If you go down to Chichester Golf Club’s Pitch and Putt Course you could be in for a surprise. Some farmyard animals have appeared on the course – but don’t worry they are not trampling the greens - they are special tee markers introduced by the Club for their young players.

Junior Member Jack Eggins is only 8 years old yet he amazed his fellow golfers on the Par 3 course by achieving a hole in one.

Our popular night golf event returned for another winter season, with the first event held on the eve of Halloween

Chichester Golf Club’s inaugural Festival of Golf was held over 3 days on the 26th, 27th and 28th April in aid of Chestnut Tree House children’s hospice. The weather was perfect for golfing and over £400 was raised for the local charity. Thank you to all who contributed.

Its dark by 6 pm these days but that’s not stopping golfers at Chichester Golf Club from teeing it up.

A big thank you to everyone who completed a membership survey. The feedback has been invaluable in formulating our plans for the Club. Many members provided us with their e-mail address and we will be using e-mail and the club’s web site as the main vehicles of communication in 2006. The purpose of the survey is to provide us with feedback to ensure that the Club is moving in the direction favoured by the members and to review the 5-year plan for the Cathedral course. The feedback from the membership suggests that the modifications to the 7th and 8th holes on the Cathedral have been well received but that you see other matters of higher priority than completing the 5-year plan. We plan therefore to concentrate our investment this coming year on the pathways. With specific upgrades planned for the 1st, 4th 6th and 7th holes and a general resurfacing of many of the principal pathways. Many members have taken a golf lesson with our professionals and rate them as excellent. As an extra incentive to get your game in shape ready for the Spring, we are offering a Special Members 25% discount on all individual golf lessons taken in January and February 2006. Golfers are being offered the unique chance to win a fiver when they visit Hill Barn Golf Course in September – simply by scoring just one par in their round.

On 2nd and 3rd July Chichester Golf Club held its club championships which is a 36 hole scratch event played over 2 days. The field consisted of over 50 competitors with 2 juniors.

Now is the time when the cutting work starts to slow up and the watering tasks begin as we head into hotter drier conditions.

The courses are in fantastic condition as a result of the spring program, hard work by the green keepers and a little help from the weather.

With the Junior section growing continuously, it is now stronger than ever before.

A newly established par three competition exclusively for Chichester’s Privilege card holders was won at a canter by 74 year-old Ted Powell, who made a fantastic par 27 – closely followed in third place by 80 year-old Denzil O’ Hara. Splitting the two in second was Michael Upchurch.

We have now completed our spring preparation work and the courses are now in great shape.
